2015 Press
CARGOTEC CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 20 APRIL 2015 AT 3 PM (EEST)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, participates in the TOC Container Supply Chain Exhibition and Conference in Singapore on 21-22 April 2015. This year at TOC Asia, Kalmar is presenting its total offering consisting of cargo handling equipment, automation, software and services. In addition, the company announces that it is moving on to the next phase in the implementation of its STS strategy.

Kalmar moves to the next phase in its STS strategy

"Asia-Pacific (APAC) is the strategic growth area for us. In 2014 the region accounted for almost one third of the total sales in Kalmar and we want to further strengthen our competiveness in this growing market. Thanks to our joint venture Rainbow-Cargotec Industries (RCI) in China, we have been able to improve our production capacity and efficiency remarkably," says Ken Loh, Executive Vice President, APAC at Kalmar.

Last year RCI delivered close to 100 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and the products have been of high quality and to the satisfaction of the customers.

"Encouraged by the excellent results RCI has delivered in the RTG business, we are now shifting our focus on the STS business. We have been building up the STS related business capabilities at the joint venture and RCI is now fully capable to take new STS orders. Our target is to be a significant player in STS business in the APAC region," says Mika Virtanen, Vice President, RTG and STS Cranes at Kalmar.

Rainbow-Cargotec Industries joint venture is located in the Taicang Economic and Technology Development Zone, Jiangsu Province, approximately 65km from Shanghai. The location of the facility at the Yangtze river is excellent, giving logistics flexibility and agility. Kalmar has recently invested in a new jetty at the facility, which will be ready in 2016.

Forerunner in counterbalanced container handling solutions

In addition, Kalmar offers the market's most comprehensive range of counterbalanced container handling solutions for ports, terminals and distribution centres in the APAC region. It is the forerunner in energy efficient cargo handling and is setting the standards for sustainable cargo handling. Kalmar brought its highly successful Gloria reachstacker family to the APAC market in August 2014. Stefan Johansson, Sales and Marketing Director for Kalmar Reachstackers and Empty Container Handlers, will speak about "Sustainability strategies for cleaner terminal operations" at the TECH TOC conference on Tuesday 21 April at 4pm.

Kalmar will be at stand B14 at TOC Asia. You can also connect with us via Twitter @kalmarglobal, LinkedIn and on the Kalmar Global Facebook page.
